Topic: Hume claims that in spite of the controversy surrounding liberty and necessity, all of humankind have ever agreed in the doctrine of liberty as well as in that of necessity (63). First, explain Humes claim. Next, Explain how Kant might respond to Humes position given his Prolegomena (see especially pages 78-81).
Notes:
1. Develop your response by making decisions about which passages, ideas, and concepts you will focus on, and by formulating a claim or claims that you will support in your paper. You do not, and cannot, say everything there is to say, nor should you try to summarize everything. Rather, you want to structure your essay according to a specific idea or two that you want to elucidate. You want to cite specific passages and explain them. Your paper should be narrow and focused rather than broad and general. The question(s) above is a general context for your inquiry. Also, while your paper can have a critical element, your paper should not simply be a critique of a thinker. Also, your paper cannot simply be a summary of the material.
2. This is not a research paper and you do not need anything besides our readings and your own thought. However, if you are inclined to include other material, that is OK so long as it is in support of your claims and does not take their place. Also, be sure not to plagiarize. Anytime you are reading additional material for this paper it should be noted, even if you are not using direct quotations.
