anthropology of China

Read and annotate the book;

Gladney, Dru
2004 Cultural Nationalisms in Contemporary China. In Dislocating China: Muslims, Minorities, and Other Subaltern Subjects. Pp. 6-29. Chicago: University of Chicago Press.

An annotation is different from a summary. Do not try to provide a short version
of the article that you read. Try to focus on arguments rather than details. In an
annotation, you need to first identify the major arguments of the article. Think about
the techniques that the authors use to form a forceful argument, and evaluate those
techniques in your annotation. In an annotation, you should include the following
contents:
Three major arguments (what are the arguments? How are they supported?
How well are they supported? How do they relate to each other?)
Three major contributions of the article (contributions to academic
community; contributions to our understanding of China or Chinese people).
