Choose a career that interests you and write two pages on what aspects of human communication you see being critical to that profession and why they matter. For example, a manager’s focus might be on small group communication and her listening skills would be paramount to earn her employees’ confidence, while a professional sports player might be focused on his nonverbal communication as well as his portrayal in mass media as a way to manage his public persona. Use terms, strategies, and theories from the text to support your claims. Chapters 8 through 14 should be your first stop for contextual analysis.
Specifically, the paper should:
Name a profession or career and provide examples of the duties that it requires
For example: A manager is required to host meetings and interview job candidates; a sports player is required to exhibit good sportsmanship and to give interviews to the press, etc.
Identify what practices of human communication intersect with those duties.
Explain the role and importance of those practices within the context of the profession or career.
You don’t have to list every form of communication you see; rather, pick the most important ones and focus on explaining why they matter. You will be graded on clarity and your application of the communication topics in a real-life scenario.
