Component 2: Practical session evaluations (L1)

For this re-sit, you will need to produce an 1500 word evaluation of the spirometry lab evaluation. Using academic sources, you need to present and explain the results produced during the lung function practical session. You are allowed to use the sub-headings of Results, Discussion, Conclusion. The results section can contain descriptive data tables and/or figures but all results need to be described. The discussion section is where you explain the results and the conclusion is to be used to summarise your findings.
For your results section, you need to analyse/calculate:
Mean and standard deviation of all variables and present them in an appropriate table illustrating the differences between genders. Data must be presented to 2 decimal places. Describe the trends observed.
Correlate chest circumference and body mass with all measures of lung function (dont split for gender) and present the results in an appropriate table. Describe the trends observed in approximately 400 words.
For your discussion section
You have presented a number of results in the preceding section. Firstly, you have presented gender differences. You need to explain why there are differences in lung function between the two genders. Your focus should be on anatomical differences as these are the most likely reasons for the difference in lung capacity.
Secondly, you should have noticed that the predicted values were different to the actual values measured. You need to explain why; a clue is on the bottom of the nomograms used during the practical sessions. Finally, you have presented correlation analyses that has looked at the relationship between chest circumference and lung function measures and body mass and lung function measures. You need to explain in physiological terms, why there is/isnt a relationship. All of your discussion must be supported by academic sources of information and be in the region of 1100 words.
